Charlie tells Rob BL have been directed to start deducting child maintenance from his earnings.
Radio Times: Charlie deals with a delicate situation. Meanwhile, Jennifer is preparing for a fight.
Characters: Adam, Brian, Charlie, David, Jennifer, Kate, Rob- Jennifer is talking to Brian about the publicity for the Public Meeting when Kate stumbles in with a hangover claiming her aura’s out of balance. Jennifer refuses to make her coffee and Brian offers her a bacon sandwich and tells her that if her body is a temple, she has squatters in. Kate asks to borrow money and Brian won’t cough up. If she gets a job, he’ll look at topping up her earnings but she is already getting free board and lodging so her spending money should be up to her.
- David and Adam move the freezer into the temporary shop. Adam shows David some photos of his arable land. Fissures seem to have opened up in the soil. David says it is the lack of organic matter. It is bound to affect the soil structure. David can’t remember anything like it at Brookfield.
- Charlie visits Rob in his office. He tells him he’s had a letter from the Child Maintenance Service instructing BL to start deducting child maintenance from his earnings. Rob blusters and continues to claim that the child isn’t his; it is just Jess being vindictive. Charlie simply says that is nothing to do with him but for the time being BL has no option but to comply.
- Adam surprises Brian by saying he is going to speak at the Public Meeting. Something has to be done about land use and development. Brian claims it is all down to the delayed flood defences and the failure of the emergency services – he and Jennifer shouldn’t get carried away.
- Jennifer is absolutely furious with Kate. Has she no shame? She has found out that Kate has been sponging off Phoebe. It’s all Brian and Lucas’s fault of course. So Jennifer reiterates the “Get a job” message. Kate claims she can’t get a job when she is a full time student. Jennifer just scoffs. Maybe she could spend more time behind the bar instead of propping it up. Adam comes in and she tries to sponge 50 quid off him. To no effect.
- Charlie asks Adam if he can watch Adam putting the covers on the polytunnels. Adam is surprised but says okay. Then Charlie suggests he will buy him breakfast afterwards.
