Clarrie has a great birthday and Rosie joins them. Ruth and David agree to Josh’s loan.

Radio Times: A big surprise awaits Clarrie, while David and Ruth make a decision.

Characters: David, Eddie, George, Josh, Nic, Ruth

• Nic and Eddie are making final preparations for Clarrie’s birthday. It’s a complete day at the beach in the back garden with sand castles, rock pools and a donkey.
• David is still really wound up about Pip. She has gone off again and won’t be back for a few days. Spencer is a saint for putting up with her. They just don’t know what to do; she has to learn to live within her means.
• Clarrie is rather surprised to be met at the gate by the children in their swimming costumes with buckets and spades. She can’t believe what they’ve done. It’s the best party ever. Clarrie tells Nic that people are beginning to sign up for the flower festival – they’ll have to make sure they don’t have duplicate saints! She tries to encourage Nic to get involved in doing the Church flowers again. The party gets even better when Rosie turns up on the doorstep.
• Ruth and David tell Josh that they are worried about the commitment but once he hears them say they wouldn’t want interest he realises they will give him the loan. But they’ll expect the repayments back properly on a monthly basis. He is thrilled. But now they’ll have to tell Pip….
