Could past events be about to bite Elizabeth? David and Ruth are finding life increasingly difficult.
Radio Times: Elizabeth remembers and Ruth is torn.
Characters: David, Elizabeth, Kenton, Rex, Ruth, Shula- Ruth discovers Rex in the Brookfield kitchen. He leaves for a meeting with Elizabeth at Lower Loxley as David rushes in complaining of an incorrect feed delivery. Ruth’s impending trip seems to take a bit of a back seat. At The Bull, Shula waxes lyrical about the rebuilding works with Kenton. He’s his usual morose, sarcastic self. As she leaves for lunch with Elizabeth, her offer to pass on his good wishes meets with a stony silence.
- Rex and Elizabeth discuss the traditional events held at Lower Loxley. He offers his services with her wine venture especially as his father had some expertise. He muses on how it is that his parents show no desire to revisit Ambridge. Elizabeth casually enquires about the brothers’ ages. She was surprised that Robin had children. Shula arrives and is introduced, exclaiming how like Robin Rex is! Elizabeth is covered in confusion.
- A harassed David finally catches up with his wife, who is feeling guilty about arranging valuations of her mother’s house without her knowledge. Usha has suggested that a power of attorney might prove useful. David agrees but Ruth becomes tearful about the whole affair, it’s getting to be “a bit much”.
- Elizabeth tells Shula that given Rex’s age (28), Robin’s wife Sonya must have been pregnant with him when Elizabeth was seeing Robin in ’87. She is fearful of village gossip, but at least she believes that Rex doesn’t know. They discuss the progress of the fete plans how the plans. Shula confides that Kenton is still very angry. Her sister feels that there must be something more that they can do.
- Before he leaves The Bull, Rex tries to interest Kenton in some geese for the new restaurant. Perhaps he shouldn’t have mentioned how grateful he was to David for all his help. Kenton takes a call from Elizabeth, offering him the opportunity to sell his hampers at the fete. He spurns it with his usual rudeness. Elizabeth is very put out.
- David and Ruth are sharing a few tender moments together before her journey north but are they interrupted by the arrival of Rex. He wishes her a safe journey. It really wasn’t the parting that David was hoping for as he calls out a forlorn “see you love”.
