David and Ruth decide to ask Jill to move back in permanently. Dan announces his plans to join the Army.

Radio Times: Dan drops a bombshell and David and Ruth turn a corner.

Characters: , , , , , ,
  • Jill and Heather discuss how hard it is keeping things going as they get older and go in for competitive housekeeping. And Heather worries about ending up sitting alone in the house.
  • Ruth tells David she feels she has let everyone down. Reluctantly he admits it would have been wonderful. David says they could try again but Ruth isn’t sure. Maybe they should just treasure what they have and being unable to type the gross over-sentimentality here, we will just say David agrees.
  • Shula is still excited to find out about Daniel’s girlfriend. Alistair tells her to stay out of it. It’s up to Dan what he tells them. Dan does arrange a time to speak to them – it’s definitely not a girl. He has decided not to go to University – he doesn’t want to study law and he doesn’t want to go to University at all. He wants his life to be meaningful and not planned for him by someone else. He is going to join the Army.
  • As Heather leaves, she begins to drop the seed of Jill staying at Brookfield for good. Jill walks in on David and Ruth having a cuddle and they talk to each other about asking her to move back in permanently.
