Radio Times: David receives a chilling message, and Ian needs persuading.

  • An edgy Ruth asks why David was wishing Adam good luck; he says it was just a discussion about entertaining the pickers. His mobile rings, but he turns it off: it must be someone ringing to ask why he is not at the show.
  • Adam catches Pawel having a cigarette. Pawel is getting up a pickers’ team for the Community games and is keen to experience the English way of life. Tonight’s outing has fallen through, so Pawel suggests that Adam take them all to The Bull.
  • David receives another call. The voice tells him they know where his children are. Ruth becomes hysterical. She must fetch the boys home at once. David tries in vain to calm her, but finally Jill takes charge. She rings Kenton who will drive Ruth to Prudhoe first thing in the morning.
  • The pub evening goes well. Ian has been persuaded to come along, and so does Alice, fresh from an interview. She thinks Pawel is very attractive. So, apparently, does Ian, who is soon enjoying a Polish lesson from him.
  • Jill tries to get the distraught Ruth to eat something. As she goes to have a wash, David tells his mother that although he has done nothing wrong, he feels it is all his fault.
