Radio Times: Jennifer and Lilian worry about Peggy, while David is building his own bonfire.

  • How exciting: the granite for Jennifer’s new kitchen is here. It’s quite an operation to move it but, would you believe, there’s yet another delay to fit the hob and cooker. Peggy’s mind is more on an appointment with her solicitor to take care of the last thing preventing probate – another door closing on the past. She also would like to bury Ben’s ashes and was hoping Tony would dig a hole, presumably not a very big one, but she knows he can’t spare the time.
  • David is building a serious bonfire on Lakey Hill; it could be bigger that 5th November. As he works at it with Mike he reports the conversation with Charlie Thomas. Later Ruth reluctantly declares that she thinks Charlie had a point: they should have a contingency plan to be prepared should the worst happen. David refuses to think about selling out for dirty money; he is more keen to build a guy for which he needs his old tweed jacket. (Doesn’t Justin Elliott wear tweed?)
  • Lilian and Jennifer are preparing for holiday; without explanation, Lilian declares she won’t be taking her knitting. They both decide to call on mum to help her with Ben’s ashes. A big enough hole seems to have been found and the ashes are buried; rest in peace, dear and faithful friend. Leaving Jennifer to tidy up, Peggy shows Lilian the matinee jacket that she completed yesterday.
