  • A somewhat recovered Helen goes for a walk with Rob and Henry. Rob thinks she is overprotective of Henry, but announces his intention of coming with her on Henry’s first day at school. Helen mentions a job she has seen in the farming press; Rob is quick to remind her that he is not looking for work at present; it is far more important that he focuses on designing the new shop and café. Not altogether convincingly, Helen says they can manage for a while before having to use Peggy’s gift. “Is something bothering you?” asks Rob. It is just getting Henry ready for school, lies Helen.
  • As Pip tries to get a new-born calf to suckle, she and David discuss her decision to return to Brookfield. Ruth wonders if one of the managers at Websters had come on to Pip; no, she says, it was just the prospect of sitting behind a desk crunching numbers. She claims to be upset about newly-appointed Matthew having to leave, but is airily told it is fine. David and Ruth will gladly pay the £2k severance fee. Anxious David wonders if Pip might ring Websters to see if she could revoke her resignation but Pip is adamant. Brookfield is where she wants to be.
  • As Kenton plants up hanging baskets for the Autumn, Jolene tries to get a decision from him about Pip’s now-not-leaving meal. She unwittingly mentions that Jill is having to leave Brookfield, and Kenton erupts in fury at David’s appalling treatment not just of Jill, but of Heather too. Jolene can go to the meal if she wants, but Kenton will not be there. He has no wish for Jill to witness the good kicking that David deserves.
