Radio Times: Pip knows what she wants, and Pat is full of praise.

  • It’s the morning after the night before and Helen finds herself alone in the house; Rob is collecting Henry. She is perhaps reflecting on the potential consequences of last night. She is not sure she will be up to the opera but Rob makes it clear she will be letting him down if she doesn’t go.
  • Rob is irritated that Helen cannot raise a smile; he has tried to make this week special so don’t spoil it. Pat gushes that Rob has told her all about last night – well, maybe not all. Helen concedes that he takes such good care of her. Yes, indeed.
  • Jim has been doing some research about registering the shop as a community asset; it’s not too late, if they are quick. He makes a very hostile remark to Pat about the village shop being due a share of the profits of their new farm shop, having helped to build up trade. Rob slaps him down.
  • Pip is back early from High Wycombe; the job was not what she was expecting, all meetings and presentations. David urges her to give it a chance but she has already thought it through and has decided it is not right for her. The Brazil project has been cancelled. She wants her future to be here at Brookfield, if that’s ok. It is, which is good because she has already resigned.
  • As they wait for their picnic, Helen still seems distracted but Pat is waxing lyrical about Rob; his support earlier has made his halo shine even brighter in Pat’s eyes; she is seeing a whole different side of him. He is a fantastic addition to the family. Looks like game, set and match to Rob.
