  • Still smarting from the banks’ refusal to lend her £300,000, Lizzie scours the attics for saleable works of art. She asks Lewis to help, and they come across a number of paintings. The trustees must grant permission, but Lizzie intends to go ahead with a valuation anyway, and it will include some of Julia’s more ostentatious jewellery.
  • Matt is in ebullient form as he and Lilian prepare for their meeting about the conversion. He has booked a spa day for them both to celebrate Valentine’s Day, to be followed by dinner at Grey Gables. Lilian is lost for words, but deeply touched that Matt should be thinking of her in this way. She in un-nerved when he inadvertently says it is taking place in Friday rather than Thursday.
  • Tom calls on Peggy, and in his usual self-satisfied manner, tells her that he is trying to source more meat for his ready meals. He comments that Brenda has lost interest in the business now that she has a baby sister; she is round there all the time. Peggy sees this as a sign that Brenda is developing maternal instincts.
  • The business meeting goes well for Amside, and Lilian praises Matt, who is pleased that they are back in the big time again. On the way home Lilian gets a text from ‘Judith’ and asks Matt to drop her at Peggy’s; she will walk home. Once Matt has gone she rings Paul and tells him that she will not be able to speak to him on Valentine’s day, because Matt has it fully booked. But Friday is still clear.
  • Peggy tells Lilian about Brenda’s interest in babies. Bethany is bringing joy despite her problems.
