Radio Times: Exit the pigman

  • The village is still coming to terms with Tom’s death. He was 88 but, as Lizzie put it, he was the kind of person you always expected to just be around. Joe comments on the passing of a genuine countryman, Phil remembers his powers of observation and the kind of things he could pick up on, animal tracks and the like. The wake will be at Brookfield and a happy send-off is planned. Jill wonders if Hayley might want to speak? Pru’s been hit hard by it and plans are afoot to track down their two foster sons which might cheer her up.
  • David and Ruth are busy with the new calves (de-budding, passports and the like), Ruth, in the midst of writing her speech for the conference later in the week, has plenty of ideas for cutting costs – including a computer dating agency for the calves! Harry Roberts has, with his hours being cut, handed in his notice so as to work in a garden centre – so the pigs are another pull on their time.
  • Lizzie talks to Jill about the wedding – but Jill is worrying about the funeral arrangements. Lizzie wonders where her legendary long-term planning has gone, she accuses her mother of not wanting the marriage to take place. Guilty as charged, which results in Lizzie getting quite angry and pointing out that what other people think is irrelevant and that if they want to marry then the family should support the decision and make the day special for them.
