Fools rush in?
Radio Times: Fools rush in?
Characters: Alistair, David, Jill, Phil, Ruth, Shula, Usha- Alistair and Shula are at Brookfield for lunch – and want to break the news, so they decided that he should talk to Phil and she’ll talk to Jill. After a slightly uncomfortable request for her hand, Phil is delighted with the news – the best all week considering Brookfield’s current situation. Jill, though, is not so sure, pointing out that a few months ago Shula was sure that Richard was the man for her, isn’t this all a bit sudden? She’s pleased but her misgivings are obvious.
- David calls round and is pleased for them all.
- Jill and Phil discuss things in private and Jill voices her concern that Shula’s not ready and is doing it out of gratitude or some thought of debt for his standing by her.
- Usha’s in the cottage when David returns and he just stops himself blurting out the news. (She’s expecting her exam results in the week and is arranging suitable drinks with Ruth.) When he does tell Ruth she’s almost angry at him being pleased, especially at him suggested that Shula deserves some happiness. What, pray tell, asks she, does Usha deserve?
