• Abbie is a giraffe in her school play and Hayley chats about how much fun it will be for the family. She also complains mildly about not seeing Roy much lately and tries to cadge a cuddle. Roy blames Loxfest for not kissing Hayley properly. Hayley is resigned but she reminds Roy to ask Elizabeth for the afternoon off.
• Against the ringing of the church bells, Jennifer relates Rob’s parental absence and the dinner fiasco to Peggy and announces that she feels sorry for Rob coming from ‘such a dysfunctional family’. Jennifer prattles on seemingly unaware of the irony in Peggy’s voice as she agrees. Jill receives her invite for Jennifer’s upcoming cocktail party to introduce the new kitchen to the village but Jennifer seems more interested in discussing the details of John Tregorran’s funeral; Peggy tries in vain to stop the chat and bring attention to the service.
• Roy is miffed that Elizabeth volunteered to host the post-funeral do without consulting him. Elizabeth is brusque and business-like but Roy wants to discuss feelings. When he asks for the afternoon off to see Abbie the giraffe, the tension erupts into a petty squabble. Hayley overhears and is confused as to why Elizabeth speaks so sharply to Roy about a routine request.
• Jill wonders aloud why Jennifer is so determined to be involved in John’s funeral. Peggy equivocates and later tries to warn Jennifer off.
