Mike suffers an injury and Susan shares gossip about Jennifer.

Radio Times: Mike suffers a crisis and Lynda has some news.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Ed and Mike discuss plans for Emma’s birthday. Mike suggests asking Neil and Susan for financial help but Ed mumbles he’d like the two of them to celebrate alone. Adam offers work to Ed and he gratefully accepts. Ed is not so voluble in his thanks about accepting Jennifer’s invitation which Adam notes is for the whole family including Neil and Susan.
  • Lynda has big news: Kirstie Allsopp will be opening the village fete. Josh designed a lovely poster encouraging opposition to the road through Ambridge and Lynda is eager to show it around. Susan agrees with the sentiment and notes: What the point of having roads if they don’t take you anywhere worth going? Lynda is impressed with Susan’s philosophical musings.
  • Lynda then trills about all the great and good who will be attending Jennifer’s party. (President of Borchester Rotary Club?) Susan’s antennae are up but she decides not to take offence since she left church too early to receive her invite. Lynda takes on the task of explaining Twitter to Susan when a tweet comes in which expresses support for the proposed road. Emma’s interest is captured when this tweeter mentions that 1% of the population own over 70% of the land.
  • Mike sustains a painful back injury; he tries to refuse help home but Ed and Adam insist.
  • Susan decides to join Twitter but the technology is defeating her. Susan’s mind doesn’t seem to be on the proposed road, however, and she is on the sniff about John Tregorran and Jennifer. She tells Emma that Jennifer had ‘quite a different reputation’ when she was young. Emma is interested but becomes concerned when her mother observes it is no wonder poor Adam turned out the way he did with no constant male presence in his childhood. Emma remonstrates but Susan replies that it wasn’t Adam’s fault!
  • Emma warns Susan not to tweet about Jennifer. They talk about the invitation and Susan is convinced they will get one soon. Ed has to leave the room before this conversation; with Mike out of commission, Ed worries about not fulfilling his commitment to Adam. Can he do both jobs? Jennifer’s invitation seems far from the forefront of Ed’s concerns.
