Helen gains confidence and Toby neglects to tell Pip about this financial situation.

Radio Times: Helen wants today to be perfect, and Rex has news for Toby.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Pat and Helen talk about Tracy Horrobin’s determined and very public New Year’s kiss on Roy. Helen talks about stocking cake in the shop or perhaps pursuing other new initiatives in the coming year. Pat is worried about Rob’s first contact session which is looming. Helen seems in control and is thinking only of Henry’s imminent birthday celebration.
  • Pip is frosty with Toby. Rex calls and wants to confirm Toby’s share of the past geese business.
  • Rex sums up the business dealings of the past year and ends with a 70/30 split of the small profits. Rex seems happy to be ending any relationship with Toby but he does have some bad news. Their dad has decided not to bankroll any businesses nor will he pay any living expenses for his sons. Rex is a bit worried but Toby notes that Pip pays his rent. Toby also announces he has an investor for his artisanal gin business but won’t say who it is. Rex is angry and feels he has been poorly served by his brother. They don’t part on the best of terms.
  • Pip is still angry with Toby about Brighton; what else has happened that she doesn’t know about and why did Toby miss the rehearsal? Toby spins some story about a mate who had a bad breakup and claims his motor failed. Pip leaves to visit Alice and won’t say when she will return. She asks if Rex had any news but Toby neglects to mention the financial cut off.
  • Henry is overexcited about his presents and is eager to open them. Pat is happy that Henry wants to share his birthday with Jack. She also offers to go with Helen to the contact centre to prepare for Rob’s visit with Jack but Helen refuses. Helen then asks Pat to put Rob’s birthday card to Henry into the rubbish. Pat volunteers her opinion that this is the right thing to do.
