Ian’s trip to tell his parents doesn’t go well but Adam has yet to realise Brian won’t be there either.

Radio Times: Ian gets a reality check.

Characters: Adam, David, Ian, Jennifer, Lilian, Ruth

• Ian is back from his trip to tell his family. Aunt Suzie and James are okay and both are coming to the wedding. But his Dad, as expected, wouldn’t have him in the house. Ian seems to be in denial and just wants to talk about caterers. Adam tries to persuade him to talk but it doesn’t work. Ian just wants to avoid the subject.
• Lilian is trying to get to the bottom of what is going on about Sam – there seem to be different stories from Ruth and David. But then Ruth gets a furious call from David and she has to rush back to Brookfield.
• David tries to blame Ruth for the poor milk yields. She tries to say there were a lot of factors involved but he won’t listen so she just says she’ll take all the blame and sort it out herself. Ruth tells him that none of it can go on like it is. If they are going to make their lives worth it has got to stop. What more can she do?
• Jennifer is still trying to sort out the damp in the holiday cottages and finds Lilian trying to get to the source of what is Brian’s issue over the wedding. When she talks to Adam he says his father – Paddy – won’t be there either. He sees Brian as more of his father these days. Lilian warns Jennifer how upset Adam will be. But Brian is just being selfish and unreasonable.
