It seems that Carol may hold views contrary to those prevailing in Ambridge.
Radio Times: Carol has plans, and Charlie is charming.
Characters: Adam, Carol, Charlie, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Jill- Jill calls on Elizabeth with gifts of eggs and honey; it is her wedding anniversary. She is grateful for the visit. Jill mentions rumours of Roy “cooking the books”; Elizabeth denies them emphatically and asks her mother to take no notice. Jill leaves to call on Carol just as Elizabeth remembers a similar invitation on Thursday evening.
- Carol’s car careers past Adam and Charlie and slithers to a halt. She lets them have her view on the state of the muddy roads caused mainly by farmers. Adam pours balm on her “wounds” and she takes off feeling less aggrieved. Charlie compliments him on his handling of the situation and offers to give him a break while he takes a turn on the forager. Adam accepts.
- Jenny calls in to see Carol with a gift of a clematis. Carol enquires whether she has received John’s books, just as Jill arrives. Jenny says that she has and leaves for home. The conversation turns to Carol’s inheritance, Jill is shocked to discover that Carol received not a bean, only the children received legacies.
- Jennifer arrives home to find Adam raiding the fridge, having been given a lunch break by Charlie. She takes the opportunity to berate Charlie for all of the planning ills which have befallen Ambridge of late. Adam defends him by saying that he is only doing his job and it is Justin who is the driving force. Returning from lunch, Adam finds Charlie in a philosophical mood, wondering if some of the best things in life are those we have to wait for. Adam is very slightly bemused.
- Carol tells Jill that she would be happy to take on the cottage garden maintenance providing she could get help with the heavy work. Jill later suggests Bert Fry as an ideal candidate. Talk turns to the road and AD development. Carol wonders whether opposing such change is in everyone’s best interests, as the world moves on by changing. Jill is in no mood to hear of such talk, she would rather go down fighting, any day.
