  • Meeting by the pond, Jazzer and Jim are both pleased to have some fresh company. However kind and accommodating their respective hosts, both are feeling that they have outstayed their welcome. Their meandering takes them – of all places – to The Bull; who would have expected that? Jazzer shares his concerns about the future of his milk job and they both feel that life has not been the same since they stopped sharing a house. There is no sign of Greenacres drying out enough to re-plaster but at least things are moving at The Bull; it should be finished by Christmas.
  • Helen is keeping an appointment to confirm her pregnancy, accompanied inevitably by Rob, who makes the rather unnecessary suggestion that she might straighten her hair before they go in!
  • Ruth thanks Rex for a game of touch rugby with Ben; it was just what he needed: he was especially fond of Granny Heather. Rex understands how he feels: that he must be a man and not cry; Rex relates his own experience when his mum’s mum died. Ruth too shares her memories, how she – an only child – came to be part of such a huge family. Rex offers to help while Ruth and family are at the funeral.
  • So it’s official! Helen declares herself happy with Borchester General for her confinement and they proceed homewards with Rob opening car doors etc. Now they can share the news with Pat, who has authority to tell Tony and Tom – but nobody else just yet. Pat administers hugs all round. Rob has more news: next week he will complete a step-parental responsibility agreement. Isn’t that wonderful?
