Jennifer provides a bolthole for Phoebe. David is reminded that he should call a family conference.
Radio Times: Jill tries to stay busy, and Phoebe is on the move.
Characters: David, Jennifer, Jill, Phoebe, Roy, Ruth- Roy keeps trying to ring Hayley but gets no answer. Increasingly upset, he breaks down in tears and tells her he is so sorry; he loves her so much. Then Phoebe returns from her weekend with a friend, and when Roy is forced to tell her that Hayley and Abbie have gone, Phoebe rounds on him, telling him exactly how pathetic she thinks he is. Furiously she announces that she, too, is leaving, and storms out.
- David is alarmed to see Jill balancing on a chair, trying to find a cook-book to lend Eddie. After her dizzy turn at the Harvest Supper she should not be doing things like this. Jill dismisses his concern, and retires to the dining room to find recipes which will boost Eddie’s turkey sales.
- David wonders whether Carol might know whether there is anything wrong with Jill. Ruth seems less concerned, but reminds David that the move to Northumberland is only a back-up plan. David decides to ring Rodways in the morning to have the farm valued. There is no point in looking at farms until they know what theirs is worth.
- Jennifer answers the door at Home Farm to find a miserable Phoebe on the doorstep. With true grandmotherly concern, Jennifer invites her in and gently coaxes the story from her. She tells Phoebe she can stay there as long as she likes; Brian won’t mind.
- David and Ruth break the news of the valuation to Jill, who seems to have worked that one out already. She calmly reminds them that they should let Kenton, Shula and Elizabeth know. Jill will not be at that meeting. She would only be in the way.
