Jill resolves to fight the new road scheme.

Radio Times: Shula is in a reflective mood, while David feels determined.

  • Lakey Hill is a favourite place for Jill; she finds it calming. She can’t bear to think about how the wonderful view might change. David will do everything in his power to stop the proposed new road. So will Jill. Right now she is off to see Elizabeth: yesterday would have been Nigel’s birthday and, but for Open Farm Sunday, she would have gone to see her then.
  • Elizabeth is optimistically looking at the long range weather forecast, to predict the weather for the festival that Roy has talked her into. She tries to wriggle out of it but Roy is a match for her; he is sure she will enjoy it.
  • Brian has had an idea: an awayday with Adam – to the cereals event. Adam tells him that he is already going with Charlie; Brian wouldn’t want to join them.
  • Rather than wait for Jill to join them, Shula and Elizabeth make a start on lunch and exchange thoughts on what they did yesterday, remembering Nigel. Shula admits that she and Alistair have different attitudes towards Dan’s chosen army life; she just hopes that he is up to the challenge.
  • An English pub garden in June sunshine – what could be better? Brian is enjoying refuge from the kitchen work and taking the opportunity to tell Adam all about it.
  • Roy has news: he has retrieved the noodles. What – I hear you cry; suffice it to say that it is a good thing. Elizabeth has been thinking further about the forthcoming festival and, possibly carried along by Roy’s enthusiasm, is actually starting to look forward to it.
