Joe enjoys a picnic in the orchard. Kirsty gets Helen to admit her breakup with Rob.
Radio Times: Kirsty uncovers the truth, and Joe ventures out.
Characters: Helen, Jim, Joe, Kirsty, Tom- For the self-employed, work can occasionally wait. That’s Tom’s new philosophy. Kirsty is still marvelling that they have given themselves a second chance. She is a bit worried about Helen, after observing how she snapped at Henry last night. Tom didn’t notice but then Tom wouldn’t.
- Jim is shopping in Ambridge Organics, preparing for an outing with Joe. Helen’s next customer is Rob, trying to salve his conscience by checking if she is ok. Leave her alone is the message she delivers.
- Down in the orchard, Joe is giving the prof the benefit of his apple knowledge. Jim is tempted to taste a Borsetshire Beauty which he finds a bit sharp. It’s time for the picnic that Clarrie has prepared. Jim suggests a further outing to the cider micro-brewery in Haybury; a short jaunt might be good for Joe. Joe doesn’t say yes but – and this is enough for Jim – he doesn’t say no.
- Tom delivers Kirsty on time but, because she is usually early, she gets a sharp reception from Helen; so does Tom. When he has gone Kirsty loses no time in trying to get to the root of the problem; Helen fobs her off with an excuse that Henry hasn’t been sleeping. Kirsty is not convinced and her persistence brings out the truth from Helen about Rob finishing with her. When she is with Rob they are so right together; now she wishes she had never met him.
