Josh celebrates his birthday. Ray annoys Lynda. Oliver is reassured.

Radio Times: Ruth’s not willing to compromise, and Oliver’s making the most of it.

  • It is Josh’s birthday, and his parents, while claiming that Josh is dependable and that they have no intention of gate-crashing his party at Rickyard, are in fact pruriently eager to know every last detail. David opens a bottle of wine, but then goes to have a look when he notices the cottage in darkness.
  • Lynda tells Ian how dreadful Ray’s famous Mrs Shen really is. She demands clean towels twice a day and reduced the chambermaid to tears. Lynda has looked her up online; for a famous travel journalist there is little to read about her – and just who is paying for the Royal Garden Suite?
  • David’s investigation into the darkness at Rickyard reveals that he found Josh on the sofa with a girl. He and Ruth indulge in much giggling before finishing the wine and having an early night.
  • Ray continues to annoy Lynda. She wants to cancel the Mexican Night because there are so few bookings, but Ray airily claims that he has booked in 45 ‘old codgers’; he just forgot to enter the booking on the computer. So Lynda will just have to continue sourcing all things Mexican.
  • Oliver rings to check that all is well, and with a certain lack of conviction, Lynda assures him that everything is fine. Ray is cheerful and charming, so Oliver and Caroline must not worry about a thing.
