• It’s Harry Roberts’ last day at Brookfield and David isn’t looking forward to presiding over the leaving ceremony and Bert is feeling touchy that he might be next, but Phil and David manage to convince him that they’re lucky to have him and that he’s got as a secure a job as any of them.
• Nigel and Julia are operating on different planes when discussing the matter of economising. Julia’s using second class post and suggesting that Nigel drinks instant coffee, but is happy to buy hand-made Christmas cards and talk to friends in Spain on the phone for half an hour a day. His protests fall on deaf ears but, worry not, because she is about to save them £75. How? By negotiating a discount with Underwoods on the dress she wore in the fashion show. Nigel is furious, pointing out that spending over £400 is not what he means by economising, considering that they owe £10,000 and there will be big trouble if the first installment is not found.
