  • It’s the first committee meeting of SAVE (Save Am Vale Environment) and David, who is standing in as chairman explains that he is collating information from local landowners on the financial and emotional impact of Route B. Lynda has unearthed the information that, though idea of the road was raised six years ago, it is only recently that the funding has come together; 5% is coming from a company called Hasskor – owned by Justin Elliott. Route B includes a service area, three miles from Ambridge; Hasskor has an option to buy the key 25 acres needed for this.
  • At Home Farm Brian is reaching the end of his tether over the kitchen; the final straw is a large boot crashing through the ceiling. Time to repair to The Bull.
  • Lynda is doing a stint in the shop when Lilian calls in. Faced with the news that Leonie is still ecstatic about the blanket, Lilian brags about her own knitted gift – though it in truth it is not in a good state right now.
  • David consults Brian, who pleads ignorance about the road though he admits to having had suspicions about Justin Elliott’s wider perspective. David is furious; Brian should have said something so that they could have marshalled their forces earlier.
  • What does Jenny think about Lilian’s knitting efforts? Appalling! Lilian will have to undo it and start again, this time without dropping any stitches. Brian suggests that Jenny should stand down from the SAVE committee because it puts him in a compromising position with regard to working with Justin. No way! Jennifer cares about the village and will do her bit.
