Justin is a success at the Ball, Rob is a domineering pain.

Radio Times: It is the Hunt Ball at Lower Loxley, and Justin Elliot faces the fire.

  • Oliver checks over the Hunt Ball arrangements with Elizabeth, in readiness for the arrival of Justin and Miranda Elliot. At home, Helen does a twirl for Rob in her new dress that she spent ages choosing. It’s far too revealing and his quiet putdown is devastating. Clearly, it’s her fault and she allows him to choose another more suitable one from her wardrobe. He does so… a nice, warm, blue number.
  • At the Ball, Justin and Oliver are doing the social rounds. Adam meets Justin for the first time. Charlie and his partner Rebecca hove into view; Adam excuses himself and looks for a drink. The rest of the party moves on toward the dining room. Later, Helen retells her horror story of the escaped pheasant massacre to Charlie; Rob hears it and tries to lighten the atmosphere with a laddish joke, followed by a hissed instruction to Helen to stick to soft drinks for the rest of the evening.
  • After dinner, Justin mentions to Elizabeth that Borsetshire is so beautiful, he is thinking of taking “a little country pad” locally. Adam and Charlie agree to a duel on the mechanical bull, though Adam is distinctly cool about the idea. Later in the evening, Helen is talking to Justin when he grabs a passing Rob to go in search of Charlie and talk business, leaving her high and dry.
  • Later, even though Adam has a ricked neck from the mechanical bull, Charlie springs up and challenges him to take part in the horn blowing competition, recently announced by Oliver. Moments later, after Adams effort, he meets Charlie outside and they discuss the identity of Charlie’s partner. Adam is seemingly taken aback that she’s his sister. They go back in to enjoy the rest of what the evening has to offer. One wonders if there a slight spring in Adam’s step?
