Justin talks Peggy round about his future with Lilian.
Radio Times: Justin aims to please, and Peggy speaks her mind.
Characters: Emma, Helen, Justin, Kirsty, Lilian, Peggy, Tom- Waiting for Lilian to take her to the chiropodist, Peggy has some advice for Emma, whose woes are getting on top of her: she is her own best asset and she should stop relying on others. Peggy’s mood changes when Justin turns up as a replacement chauffeur, leaving Peggy no choice.
- In the Tea Room, Tom and Helen are chewing over the IBR issue. It’s not being able to sell breeding stock that has really upset mum and dad. Kirsty is thinking about a year ago when Helen stabbed Rob.
- Justin does his best to bring Peggy round by saying how much he respects Lilian; what Peggy sees as discarding his marriage, Justin explains as dealing with something that is wrong. However, referring to Peggy’s first marriage does not go down well. How dare he; she will get a taxi home.
- While Lilian hopes mum appreciates Justin’s gesture, he is apologising for being presumptuous. His parents were in Rhodesia; his mum should have left his dad but never did. Similarly Peggy stuck by Jack hoping he would change. When love has gone what’s the point? Peggy warns that if is going to lose interest in Lilian too, then leave her alone. Justin points out that Peggy had a long and happy second marriage; with Lilian he feels he has the same loving bond that his parents had. He really wants to cancel the taxi and take her back himself.
- Back in Ambridge they meet Tom doing deliveries. Not only has he won the day and taken Peggy back, Justin is accompanying her to visit Jack’s grave. The graveyard path looks uneven – take my arm. Peggy warns that Lilian is more fragile than she pretends; she has been hurt deeply. He must make his decision and stay with it. He assures her he has made his choice, now it’s up to Lilian.
