Kate confounds the partnership meeting with a radical suggestion.
Radio Times: Kate causes uproar and Lily is left devastated
Characters: Alice, Brian, Freddie, Jennifer, Kate, Lily, Ruth- Lily and Freddie get ready to go and celebrate the end of exams. Lily remarks that the end of term will mean the end of Ellis. Sadly this is not the case; as soon as they join the party, Ellis sneeringly informs Lily that Freddie is still dealing for him, and will be all summer. Lily should face the fact that she doesn’t know her twin at all
- Kate arrives early to make sure that the partnership meeting is actually going ahead. When she learns that Adam has been held up, and will have to miss it, Kate coldly accuses him of making a pickers’ crisis an excuse. Brian opens the meeting and Kate is quick to inform the partners that she has taken advice. Brian dismisses this out of hand, but when Kate tells him that it is illegal for Brian to use her share of the profits for the clean-up, Brian can only bluster. Kate announces that if he sells the land, she will sue him. Brain points out that the only way Kate could do this would be by dissolving the partnership. Yes, she replies coldly.
- Lily tells Freddie that she knows about his dealing. Freddie tries vainly to dismiss it as a triviality, but Lily is not convinced. She intends telling Elizabeth. Saying she is frightened for him, Lily runs off
- Jennifer tries to calm the situation. Alice says Kate is acting out of spite – then Kate makes an offer. If Brian keeps the land around Spiritual Home, she will agree to using farm money for the clean-up. Brian says it is not that simple – finding an attractive parcel of land is necessary. Very well, says Kate; what about selling the house? A shocked silence ensues, broken by Ruth, who says Kate has a point. The house is a major asset so Kate’s idea is worthy of discussion.
- Finding Lily, Freddie begs her not to tell Elizabeth. If she does, he will be forced to reveal Lily’s affair with Russ. Lily is not swayed – Elizabeth will be far more angry about the dealing. Unmoved, Freddie says that if she does inform on him, he will tell the college, Russ’s wife and the press what has been going on.
