Kirsty kills a bird and has to change her plans for the wedding. Tom and Tony patch up their differences. Shula does her best to come to terms with Dan’s plans.
Radio Times: Tom and Tony have a heart-to-heart, while elsewhere Helen comes to the rescue.
Characters: Dan, Helen, Henry, Kirsty, Shula, Tom- Kirsty in in a state of some excitement as last minute touches for the wedding are put into place. She and Helen discuss Fallon and PC Burns, but then Henry spots a badly injured bird. While Helen diverts him from it, Kirsty swiftly dispatches it. Can this be dramatic irony?
- There are tensions at The Stables as Dan prepares for Sandhurst. He brings Shula’s flower arranging stuff in for her, and asks if they can have a truce. He is going to Sandhurst whatever Shula thinks, and he wishes she could be happy for him. Shula agrees to try, but lacks conviction.
- Tom spends the morning helping a grateful Tony. Over a cup of coffee Tony tells Tom how moved he and Pat were at the rehearsal. He thanks Tom for making this happen; John never got that far, but he would have been so proud of his brother. Tony admires Tom’s solid hard work, enterprise and decency.
- Dan shows his mother a long list of things he will have to take with him. Shula remembers Jill’s new iron, which she won’t need now, so he could have that, and she has a pair of Mark’s cufflinks. She knows Mark would have liked Dan to have those. As he helps her take the flowers over top the church, they spot Tom at John’s grave. Shula tells Dan to leave him alone.
- As Helen gives Henry a drink, Kirsty tries her dress on once more – and Henry spills his drink all over it. A hysterical Kirsty says she will have to call the wedding off, but Helen rings round all the specialist cleaners to see if they can help – sadly without success. Helen takes the other dress from the cupboard. Kirsty says it will have to do, without much enthusiasm, but just then Tom calls in to much girlish shrieking. He has brought |Kirsty a surprise – a pearl necklace. It goes perfectly with the replacement dress, better than it would with the other one, and pearls are, after all, organic. Kirsty thanks Helen. Everything will be all right now.
