Legal challenges to Hazel’s plans are doubtful; Rex has mixed luck; Jenny is like a dog with a bone.

Radio Times: Jill feels haunted, and Peggy offers a warning.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • Pip and Jill discuss the success of yesterday’s WI event. Pip mentions that she’s going to Lower Loxley with Rex to try and persuade Elizabeth to take geese for Christmas. Jill is shocked to discover that she knows Elizabeth’s history regarding Rex’s father. Rex calls to collect Pip, he’s somewhat nervous about the prospect of the meeting.
  • Jenny is taking Peggy to see her solicitor as planned. The conversation turns to Christine’s attempt at making ginger biscuits for the forthcoming Flower and Produce show. Peggy is less than complimentary about her fourth attempt, warning Jenny against sampling them “if you value your crowns”.
  • At Glebe Cottage, Carol and Jill are making up the guest bed for Hester, who should have been there yesterday, but she forgot! Jill can’t get over how time has flown by, especially as Carol had recently reminded her that it was sixty years since Grace’s death. Jill says that the whole event still haunts her and while she’s at it, she’s dreading the move to Lower Loxley. Carol sympathises but feels that Jill has earned the right to say “No!”
  • On the way to the solicitors, Jenny is pessimistic about being able to stop Hazel’s plans. She brings up the subject of Carol’s houseguest and makes it crystal clear that she would like to meet her. A suspicious Peggy, who has an invitation to tea with them tomorrow, suggests very firmly that Jenny should let sleeping dogs lie.
  • The meeting with Elizabeth went well. Pip and Rex have high hopes that festive goose will be on the Lower Loxley menu. In fact, Rex noticed a definite softening in Elizabeth’s approach. However, a text message from Rex’s only other lead, a restaurant chain, indicates a halving in their proposed purchases, and throws him into a pit of despair. Pip is her usual optimistic self. Things will work out!
  • As she leaves Glebe Cottage, Peggy and Jenny stop to offer Jill a lift. The meeting with the solicitor produced only one idea. Suddenly, with one bound, Jenny is out of the car. She tries to make arrangements for Carol and Hester to be entertained by her during her stay. Despite several refusals, she finally hits on the idea of meeting at the Flower and Produce show. Peggy agrees to have one final conversation with Hazel, but she’s not hopeful.
