Lilian discovers Matt’s treatment of the Walters; she takes over their case herself.
Radio Times: Lilian makes a disturbing discovery and Will splashes the cash around.
Characters: Arthur, Ed, Emma, Lilian, Matt, William- Back from Paris, Matt is up with the lark, leaving Lilian in bed. However, her mobile brings her strange news.
- Emma has brought Ed some sandwiches. He is under-whelmed by the prospect of the fish paste filling and his reaction does not please Emma.
- In response to several messages on her mobile from Arthur Walters, Lilian learns from a neighbour that Joyce has had a fall and is in hospital. She makes her way to the hospital to discover that Joyce has a hairline fracture of the hip. Arthur’s calls were about the rent, which is due. Lilian assures him that is not important right now.
- Oh deepjoy! On top of everything, Will has turned up with a present for George – a guinea-pig. That’s something else for Emma to do, and to pay for. Will’s suggestion that it could be kept at his is rejected by Ed: it would be another reason for George to spend more time there. Will has thoughtfully printed off guidance on guinea-pig care from the web.
- Lilian takes Arthur home and is appalled by the state of the place, though Arthur has put some of the floorboards back himself. Darrell had been called away at short notice and nobody else came to fix them. Something has gone badly wrong.
- Back home Lilian tears into Matt, only to be told that – wait for it – it was her fault because she had insisted on deploying Darrell elsewhere. Or it was all Darrell’s fault for leaving things in such a dangerous state. Enough! From now on Lilian will supervise the Walters’ house; she will decide who works there and what state it is left in.
