Radio Times: Jolene tries to be the voice of reason, and Alice plays peacemaker

  • Alice is a bit nervous about giving some speech, but that will be as nothing compared to the conversation she needs to have with Kate later. Then Lilian arrives and is sulking about Justin staying away for another day. Jolene asks her what is wrong. It turns out that Mandy Beesborough has told her that Miranda is in Edinburgh with Justin as well. Mandy even knew where they had been eating and who with. Jolene tries to say it doesn’t mean anything is going on. Maybe Justin thought it was simpler not to tell her. But Lilian says if he can’t trust him over this she can’t trust him over anything. She’ll have it out with him – but face to face.
  • Alice is left with the task of explaining to Kate why being a surrogate might not be quite the right thing. Initially Kate thinks it might be that Alice wants to be the surrogate but Alice stresses that it’s more a worry about whether Kate might have a problem with an older pregnancy, and she has her business and all of her own children to look after.
  • Lilian is at home when the door bell rings and it is Matt. He claims he was looking for Justin and pretends to want to leave but agrees to Lilian’s offer of a drink. Matt is relocating to Equador. He fell in love with it and Lilian loves the photos. Maybe he’ll get back into property or similar. Maybe Lilian could come out to visit. It would be nice to see a friendly place. Lilian says she is wondering about putting Amside under the Damara umbrella. Matt says he can see the advantages. He leaves but say he will always be there if she wants to talk. He is at her service.
  • Later Kate rings Alice. Maybe being the surrogate isn’t the right answer. But how is she going to break it to Ian and Adam? Alice tells her not to worry. She’ll speak to them for her – manage their disappointment.
