Lilian offers a listening ear. Adam offers sage advice.
Radio Times: Lilian dances her way to the top.
Characters: Adam, Ian, Jennifer, Lilian, Matt, Mike- Matt is tetchy when Lilian grills him about his movements. He needs to see Brian, and is cross because Debbie didn’t know where Brian was.
- Adam is tetchy, too, dealing with the fruit pickers and the strawberry stall at various markets. Ian offers to help, so they can spend some time together. They discuss Brian’s situation, and Ian comments that anything Jennifer takes on is done brilliantly. She’d be a great mother to any child. They are interrupted by Matt, still looking for Brian, and angry about the decision not to use contractors for the arable.
- Lilian has another dancing lesson from Mike, secure in the knowledge that Matt won’t be home for hours. Mike admits that he was initially reluctant because he hadn’t danced with anyone since Betty, but now he’s started, he feels better. Lilian is very understanding, and admits that she didn’t want to go out after Nick died, and that she got into a rut in Guernsey. Mike suggests another lesson on Friday.
- Adam is still worried about Jennifer. She admits it’s a terrible strain, with Brian waiting for her answer, and trying to be cheerful for Alice. She knows that if she wants Brian and the comfortable life she leads, Ruairidh will have to be part of it. Adam points out that Siobhán won’t be part of the picture, and urges his mother to take Ruairidh; she would be a wonderful mother to him, and he’d be a lucky boy to have her.
