Lilian tries to save Matt from Justin’s revenge and Ed is a support for Oliver in his grief.
Radio Times: Lilian pulls rank, and Ed wants to lend his support
Characters: Ed, Emma, Fallon, Justin, Lilian, Matt, Oliver- Emma worries because Oliver has been in the café for over an hour pretending to read his paper. Fallon shows Emma the house she and Harrison have offered on. Emma is thrilled for Fallon but worries that Oliver may decide to sell Grange Farm. She is also worried about Oliver on his own.
- Matt wishes to speak to Justin without Lilian around. He apologises on the doorstep because Justin won’t allow Matt inside. Matt says he got it wrong and Justin has won. Justin is more powerful than Matt, whose employment is uncertain. Justin warns him to keep his distance from him and Lilian.
- Fallon reads to Emma from the paper that the Duxford sisters plan to open the fete and they declare they are on the same side in the food debate as the protestors. Emma is sceptical but Fallon is overjoyed. Harrison texts Fallon that their offer has been accepted on the Borchester house.
- Justin tells Lilian that the message has finally got through and Matt apologised. Lilian asks if he has been fired. Justin says he will make sure that Matt is let go. Lilian argues that there is no need and Justin should ignore Matt and move on.
- Ed goes over to Oliver and declares he is on his lunch break. He asks Oliver to come on a walk. Oliver confides to Ed now that the formalities are over, he doesn’t know what to do with himself. Ed asks if he wants to come back to Grange Farm but Oliver says no, he can’t bear it without Caroline. Oliver’s daughter wants him to come to New York but that is no good. What should he do with all of Caroline’s bits and pieces? Oliver must decide everything. And what should he do with Caroline’s ashes? Ed suggests the green burial site. Ed counsels that Oliver doesn’t have to decide immediately. Take all the time he needs. Oliver was a support for Ed, and now Ed is here for Oliver, any time he needs to talk.
- Lilian visits Matt and wants to know if he lost his job. He thinks the danger is past. Lilian warns that if Matt provokes Justin one more time, it is the end. Matt also wants to know why Lilian is warning him. Why is Lilian sneaking around behind Justin’s back to talk to Matt? Lilian still has feelings for him. Admit it, he demands. Lilian says that is all in the past. There is no future for the two of them but she can’t stand by and watch Matt crushed underfoot. She wishes she could.
