Lilian worries about the young applicants for the position of Justin’s PA and Toby has his hopes up for Scruff Gin and Pip.
Radio Times: Toby has a turn of fortune and Kenton needs reining in
Characters: Jennifer, Jolene, Kenton, Lilian, Pip, Rex, Toby- Jolene is very annoyed with Kenton because he promised David that he would pay £1500 toward what is owed Brookfield. Toby comes in for his shift and Kenton shows him the posters, loyalty cards and branded cocktail umbrellas(!)that have been bought for Scruff Gin.
- Jennifer and Lilian are on duty for their first Speed Watch. There is a slight disagreement over who gets to hold the speed gun and who must be the recorder, armed only with pen and paper. Jennifer suggests swapping over after a time since she wants a time with the gun but Lilian is noncommittal. Justin has disappeared into Demara business. Lilian is quite disappointed that all drivers are slowing down. Lilian has also looked through the applications for Justin’s personal assistant and notes that she has handbags older than most of them. While Lilian is chatting away, a speeding car goes by. Rex stops to apologise.
- Pip stops into The Bull to put up a flyer for Rickyard Cottage since they have missed the usual places this year. Kenton comments he is surprised Ben isn’t moving into Rickyard since he was in The Bull amusing all the customers with an impression of Pip and Josh arguing. Ben acted out the spat as if it were in a boxing ring and he pretended to be the referee. There is the inevitable meeting with Toby and Pip asks about the gin. Kenton leaves them alone with unusual tact. Toby tells Pip that he has joined a gym to get into shape. Pip is surprised that Toby seems to have taken the break-up so well. The house feels too crowded and she and Josh aren’t getting along at all.
- Kenton tries to smooth the payment promise with Jolene but she is angry that he didn’t talk it over with her first. She inevitably relents, though, and Kenton goes in for a hug.
- Jennifer insists on her turn with the speed gun but Jennifer refuses to test those drivers she knows. Lilian complains that Justin doesn’t understand how important his personal assistant is. Jennifer points out that Lilian might as well get used to it: she won’t have any control over this hiring.
- Toby bursts in with the news that he has had a brilliant evening. Rex isn’t impressed and reminds Toby Bert is sleeping. Toby brags that Kenton and Jolene are pumped up about Scruff Gin. And Pip came in and Toby interprets her words as meaning that she wants him back. Toby is going to win Pip back!
