  • It’s Valentine’s Day in Ambridge and love and smooching are well and truly in the air, though on Kenton’s part, tantrums are also in the air. He is far from happy with having Wayne in the kitchen with Jolene helping him to garnish the dishes, and makes his feelings abundantly clear.
  • Pip and Matthew take a romantic stroll up Lakey Hill and talk both of cows and lovers’ tiffs. Matthew suggests hastening back to the cottage for a Valentine’s love-in.
  • Fed up with Kenton’s sniping, Jolene tells him he is jealous but has no grounds for his jealousy. This evening she will take care of the film and Kenton can assist Wayne. Both her ex-husband and her current one seem somewhat startled at this arrangement. Wayne tells Kenton that Jolene is happy with him, which is more than he ever managed. She is a remarkable woman. Kenton cheers up mightily as it slowly dawns on him that Wayne is no longer a rival for Jolene’s charms.
  • Ruth and David sample Wayne’s cooking, along with what sounds like the entire village and half of Borsetshire. The verdict is that the food is excellent. Pip and Matthew arrive, and Pip loses no time in telling her parents that she and Matthew have had a lovely afternoon. Snigger snigger. They head for the film, but choose not to sit near David and Ruth.
  • Pip cries at the film; it’s just like her and Matthew. Matthew assures her it will not be for ever slurp slurp. Ruth cries at the film and the lovers who must overcome distance, just like her and David when she was in New Zealand. David cries at the film and the lovers who must overcome distance, just like the time Ruth almost went off with Sam (note that David’s interest in Sophie has been totally erased from his mind.) But they are back together. Slurp slurp.
  • Jolene sends Wayne home; she and Kenton will clear up after a very successful day at The Bull. Kenton does his poor little Kenton act; he doesn’t deserve Jolene and wishes he could show her what she means to him. Slurp slurp. At least it is 365 days until next Valentine’s day.
