Lynda contemplates the end of Ambridge Christmas shows; Jill contemplates the end of life at Brookfield.
Radio Times: David has a big question for Jill, and Lynda is defeated.
Characters: David, Helen, Jill, Lynda, Ruth- Helen and Henry have been to see Rob off hunting and now have met Jill, who is surprised to hear that Helen is giving up work. Lynda is surprised too but preoccupied about casting difficulties for the show; she clearly wants to talk but because Jill cannot stop right now, they agree to have lunch together.
- Jill was rushing away because she rightly assumed that David and Ruth would want to tell her all about their trip. They were quite taken with the farm, though of course, it is still a backup plan. Jill leaves without saying much. Oh dear!
- Tina has agreed to take over the shop. Henry is pleased at the prospect of endless stories from mum. Only one story for now though, then she must prepare lunch for the Lord and Master. He turns up smelling of horse and is dispatched to the bathroom before his delicious lunch is served, though not before he has promised Henry a pony!
- Lynda explains that only two people turned up to auditions, neither being the most talented of thespians. It’s the worst response ever. Jill suggests having a break – no show this year – then return with renewed energy and fresh ideas. Lynda confesses that her enthusiasm is gone. Maybe she will not put on a show ever again. That’s more drastic than Jill had in mind.
- David, having seen Jill come back, comes in to talk. For David the idea of leaving Brookfield is like having his heart wrenched out, though he can’t say that to Ruth. Would Jill come? It would be so hard, that he doesn’t think he could do it unless she did. No pressure then! Could she leave Brookfield?
