  • Kenton is thinking about this evening’s Fête committee meeting, but when he visits the shop there is time to discuss with his mum the stern father scenario between David and Pip. Clearly Jill thinks David is being too harsh, bearing in mind that he crashed his van at when at college.
  • Elona has been offered a job in Borchester, with accommodation for her and the girls, albeit sharing a room again. As she explains to Peggy, they want her to start as soon as possible. Much as she will miss Peggy – and Jack at The Laurels – she must take the job.
  • Peggy is having a busy evening: Tom drops by to give her an update on his presentation to the supermarket. It was nerve racking; they didn’t give much away but he was encouraged; now he must put it out of his mind for a few days. Peggy tells him about Johnno no longer being Helen’s boyfriend and he just stops himself in time from trivialising this development.
  • As she prepares for the Fête meeting, Lynda dwells on what might have been; she must accept the will of the people no matter how misguided. So they need to come up with a list of games, suitably Ambridgified, like tossing the fence post, though Jazzer would like real cabers and definitely the pipes! For weight-throwing, Kenton has a great idea – a handbag, filled with lead – generating a chorus of “A handbag!”.
  • Now Elona must now write to Amside to give them four weeks’ notice on the house, as required in their agreement. Darrell realises that he had better find something for himself pretty quickly.
