Matt finds Lilian shopping with Jennifer and produces at ticket to go away with him on Sunday.
Radio Times: Matt makes a risky move, and Jennifer finds that she can’t keep up.
Characters: Alistair, Jennifer, Jim, Lilian, Lynda, Matt, Shula- Lynda is trying to canvass support for Robert by trying to make out that Emma is unreliable. Jim appears saying that she is young, enthusiastic and brings a lot of useful experience to the table. And Emma is spending more time talking to people than on a fancy leaflet. Lynda accuses Jim of bias. He claims he is simply ensuring that both sides are heard. Lynda says it is clear he is so obviously pro-Grundy because he is so clearly anti-Snell.
- Jennifer is concerned about Lilian. One minute she is ill and the next minute she is up and driving to Birmingham to shop. It’s been a difficult week. Pre wedding nerves. Then she gets a text message.
- Shula is trying to work out the seating plan and trying to work out where to put Matt. He isn’t going to bring her down, however much he tries. She is furious when she finds out that Alistair has only hired a dinner jacket (as if any normal person would call it a “tux”). But he says she’ll like it.
- Lilian is picking a dress for the ball. She even teases that she and Jennifer should choose the same in different colours, just like Peggy used to make them when they were small. They are having fun but her phone keeps pinging. Jennifer asks that she would tell her if something was wrong.
- Alistair does try on the jacket and they laugh when he bends over and rips the jacket up the back. But the moment is spoiled by an e-mail from Matt asking for a plus one. Shula finally loses it. Everything has been Matt’s fault, the damage to the business, Latif pulling. It is the final straw.
- Suddenly Matt turns up in the changing room. He told the shop assistants that he was joining his wife who is choosing clothes for their second honeymoon. She is terrified Jennifer will find him so he quickly hands over a ticket to go away with him. He’ll be in the pub on Sunday night. Be there or be Mrs Justin Elliott. When Jennifer finds her, Lilian is deflated and just says she wants to go home.
