  • Meeting Lilian on his way to work, Ian wants to hear all about London and Matt’s travels. Understandably, Lilian is distinctly evasive.
  • As he drops off some hay at Lower Loxley, David meets Lewis, who tells him they have run into problems with the planners over the proposed Lower Loxley development. A stilted conversation ensues as David looks over the plans and informs Lewis that Rob has invited him to tour the mega-dairy. Ruth has declined to come. But at least Lewis has remembered to hand over, in true Ambridge style, a card and present for Josh’s birthday
  • Trying to escape Martyn, Kathy take s a walk and meets Ian, who tells her the rumour there is that Marietta is leaving; as she is married to the chef at the Golf Club, this may be bad news for Kathy.
  • Returning to work, Kathy is subjected to yet another utterly implausible bullying and sneering tirade from Martyn. After several fruitless attempts to get him to listen, Kathy finally informs Martyn that the chef has walked out, sick of constant complaints following Martyn’s decision to make changes. It is, of course, all Kathy’s fault for hiring him in the first place, and she is ordered to find a replacement immediately.
  • Lilian takes Matt to see the changes at the Paper Mill. He is hugely impressed, and tells Lilian so. Despite everything that has happened, he is so pleased to be back in Ambridge with her.
