  • Justin and Latif are interested in the scheme of Hugo Mellings for the racecourse. He seems like a good kind of a guy and Latif is very confident in his investment. The money isn’t in the bank yet but it looks like a handsome dividend. Latif suggests that Justin should join in on Matt’s investment day at Grey Gables but Justin doesn’t think it’s for him. Justin admits that while he doesn’t want to invest, he is curious about Matt’s role in all of this. He claims to be a small pawn but maybe he has more at stake than they thought.
  • Brian is shopping for Jennifer in the Bridge Farm shop. Pat is extolling the benefits of Helen’s Borsetshire Blue. Tom walks in and tells Brian he has been giving the “other thing” some support. Tom admits that Brian has asked him to be Attorney for Ruairi. Tom is obviously keen on the idea but Pat isn’t at all sure. Things haven’t worked well in the past and Tom will be in the middle of Brian and Adam. Tom might see he is standing up for Ruairi but Brian might see him as his tame poodle.
  • Later, Tom tells Pat that he thinks she might be right about being an Attorney. Number one rule with Brian is that he never does anything without expecting something in return. Pat thinks he is right. The only thing is to turn Brian down without offending Brian and Jennifer.
  • Tom calls Brian to turn it down. He was very pleased to be asked. But he thinks he is too close to the family. They really need someone more distant to represent Ruairi. As it is, he might not be able to be objective. Brian says he understands. As Brian hangs up, Matt appears and taunts Tom with how his business deals haven’t been going so well. Tom says no, they haven’t, and they know who is to blame. Why did Tom ever trust him? Matt tells him he needs to keep his mouth shut. It won’t help his reputation if it gets known that he threw away 100 grand.
  • Matt bumps into Justin and claims he is trying to make a fresh start with the family. Justin reluctantly seems to agree. Then Tom appears. And for some reason Tom thinks he can warn him off. Matt is a crook and a conman. He is out to wreck the family. Tom admits it was Matt who told him the land was worth more than it was, just to throw a spanner in the works. Justin must be careful. And it clearly gives Justin some food for thought.
