Matt shows Darrell on which side his bread is buttered.
Radio Times: The competition heats up between Kenton and Lynda. Meanwhile, Darrell voices his concerns.
Characters: Darrell, Eddie, Kenton, Lynda, Matt, Susan- Eddie is developing a new line in garden ornaments but is meeting some resistance from Lynda to displaying them on the roadside verge – lest the Britain in Bloom judges come back to check up on them. He also gets resistance from Kenton when he tries to get some advance information about the forthcoming sporting events.
- Darrell is fishing for information in the shop: did Susan’s brother Clive have any misgivings about Matt? Susan would be the last to know. So when he collects the computer desk, Darrell takes the opportunity to share with Matt the concerns he has about the legality of Bernie’s operations, based on talking to a few people. Matt pleads amazement. Bearing in mind Darrell’s need for a steady income, Matt suggests that he counts his blessings, keeps his head down and gets on with his job.
- At the committee meeting Lynda outlines the kernel of their Cultural Olympiad; there remains the question of where this performance art should be centred. Kenton makes the mischievous suggestion that it should be at, or even in, the hot tub at Honeysuckle Cottage. Surprisingly, Lynda is interested. She is less enthusiastic about Kenton’s silly ideas for sporting events which pander to the fit and healthy; he thinks it sounds more like fun than her performance art. Is that a challenge? Let the games commence.
