Matt turns detective and spoils Lilian’s surprise.

Radio Times: Matt’s suspicions come to the fore.

Characters: Eddie, Lilian, Matt, Mike, Roy, Sid

• Matt is sure that Lilian is up to something and he is keeping his eye on her.
• Roy is planning Phoebe’s birthday party but is not sure whether Jennifer will come. Mike hopes to be back early to help but he doesn’t sound too sure. He is at a loose end today and heads for The Bull. He has barely gone when Lilian rings and Roy tells her where he has gone.
• As soon as Mike has settled himself into the pub, Lilian turns up. She is not best pleased because Mike has stood her up and she takes him to one side, much to the amusement of Eddie and Sid – then they go to the function room upstairs.
• Matt returns home and rings the last number that Lilian dialled. Roy professes ignorance but then heads straight for The Bull. Matt is hot on his heels and does not fall for Eddie and Sid’s story. He heads upstairs and all is revealed.
• Matt has spoiled Lilian’s surprise. After his remark to Jennifer at the last ball they attended, Lilian is out to prove that she is as good a dancer as Yvette. She wanted to dazzle him at her birthday party. Matt assures her that she would beat Yvette hands down in every way.
