Ruairidh arrives but Alice cannot warm to him.

Radio Times: Ambridge receives its newest resident.

Characters: Alice, Brian, David, Jennifer, Oliver, Ruth

• Brian and Ruairidh are on their way home; Ruairidh is confused: he thinks he is going to Germany and that mummy will be in the flat.
• Out for a ride, Alice is asked by David about Brian’s return. Her rapid departure says it all.
• David is nursing a sore head – what a good job that Ambridge didn’t win. He is too busy to hear all about Ruth’s meeting with Gray Bostock and it comes as a surprise when he learns later that Ruth is going to Farmers’ Markets to give out leaflets.
• Ruairidh arrives to be greeted by Fly the sheepdog but not Alice. His new room smells funny but he likes the colour and the duvet cover – just like his room in Germany. Alice returns but finds it impossible to be warm to him. Brian explains that Alice is unwell; not like mummy, though, she will be better soon.
