Neil’s in a black mood. Oliver’s in a blue mood.

Radio Times: Neil shows his competitive side.

  • Emma’s working late at the holiday cottages, so rather than leave George with Ivy Horrobin, where he’ll watch cartoons and eat sweets, Neil takes him along to feed the pigs. Mike drops in, and is surprised to see George there, but agrees that it’s better for him. Mike’s planning consent has been granted, so now all he needs is a builder. He tells Neil about Ed and Fallon. Predictably, Neil has no sympathy for Ed.
  • When Neil takes his eye off George, the little boy gets in amongst the pigs and is pushed over in the mud. He’s very upset, but not nearly as upset as Susan when Neil gets him home. She gives Neil the termagant treatment.
  • Mike and Oliver comment that Ed’s not himself. Mike admits that he had his doubts about Ed after the drugs episode, but Oliver’s influence worked miracles, and Ed has turned into a good worker.
  • Helen is cheerful; the orders for Oliver’s cheese are up, and soon they’ll be able to make a batch of Sterling Gold. Somehow Oliver doesn’t share her optimism.
  • Shula and Kenton are planning an 80’s night for their joint 50th birthday. The trouble is, Neil is calling so many extra bell practices that she wonders if she’ll be able to get away. She tells Helen she doesn’t think she’ll make the planning meeting.
  • Neil’s mood is foul as he leads the bell practice, criticising and carping. Christopher doesn’t help by telling everyone it’s because Susan gave him a tongue-lashing earlier. Shula tries to tell Neil that everyone is tired, and they need a break, but she realises this is not the moment to say it.
