  • Nic asks Jill what time she will be needed to help at the film night. Jill tells her flatly that she is not needed, and Nic is furious. She is fed up with other people telling her what to do. Jill tells her that she, too, suffered from cramp when she was expecting the twins. Poor Nic is forced to accept the role of raffle ticket seller from a sitting position.
  • David and Ruth decide the crops will be ready for combining next week. Pip arrives to say that she has been offered a week’s relief milking near Maidenhead. Through somewhat gritted teeth David tells her she must go; it will look so good on her CV. When Pip has gone, he and Ruth wonder how on earth they will manage without her.
  • Kenton calls to see Jill, who tells him how pleased she is about his engagement to Jolene. Kenton admits that he is pleased to feel that finally belongs somewhere. Jill is greatly looking forward to the wedding, and Kenton assures her that a date will soon be announced. Meanwhile Meriel is emailing Jill pictures of purple dresses. Kenton’s new domesticity even extends to picking the twins up from Pony Club camp, as Elizabeth is too busy.
  • When Nic turns up for work she finds that Kenton has placed a stool for her in each bar. Her anger at people not minding their own business reasserts itself initially, but Kenton’s charm finally wins Nic round, and she accepts with grace and gratitude.
