Oliver lays Caroline to rest. Adam confides in Lilian.
Radio Times: Lilian lends an ear. Caroline is remembered
Characters: Adam, Ed, Jill, Lilian, Oliver, Shula- As Jill returns a recipe book to Shula, she stays to watch Shula clipping one of the horses, and talk turns to the Flower and Produce Show. Because Jill is so busy with the WI and her bees, her entry will be limited to honey and a gentleman’s buttonhole this year. They laugh about Bert and his fears that Cecil Jackson might beat him in the vegetable section, and discuss Shula and Alistair’s Christmas holiday in Norway. Now that Latif has signed up Anisha, things are looking good for the practice at last. Meanwhile the hunt ball still has no venue and no band, with just a month to go – and Jill has passed on to Shula a jar of Pat’s infamous gooseberry jam.
- Ed calls at Grey Gables to help Oliver bury Caroline’s ashes and plant a tree. Ed is delighted that Oliver will be staying; the Grundy family have a home and it is all thanks to Oliver. Shula arrives to join them, inexplicably lying about her reason for being late. Caroline is laid to rest with a flowering cherry tree above her, which should bloom on her birthday.
- Lilian encounters a cross Adam, whose quad bike is giving trouble. Lilian thanks Adam for making her see sense about Matt; she has now set the date for her wedding to Justin; December 22nd at Lower Loxley. Adam confides his worries over Ian’s longing for a child. Adam has no paternal feelings, but Lilian assures him that as the baby grows up, he will feel differently. She suggests fostering, but apparently that is not what Ian wants. Adam feels he is standing in Ian’s way. Could you face losing him for ever, asks Lilian.
