  • Brenda has called to collect some things and didn’t expect to find Tom at home; he has an important meeting today, so came back to change. She wishes him well with the meeting.
  • On the phone to Paul, Lilian reports her encounter with Matt; it was a close shave too many. The conversation is interrupted by his doorbell: son Charlie has called. A slanging match ensues in which Paul attempts to bully Charlie and his sister: if they insist on going to their mother’s wedding, they can wave goodbye to a share in his business. So be it; he can keep his money. Frank makes his mum happy in a way that he never did and he has been a better grandad to his kids than Paul has ever been.
  • Brenda finds Matt looking into Lilian’s diary, with a cover story that he thinks she is ill and was looking for a doctor’s appointment. Brenda reports that Lilian has been sharp with her of late; she was particularly vehement when Brenda answered her phone.
  • Back from his meeting, Tom is keen to report to Helen. She is not around, so Kirsty lends a listening ear instead. The meeting was informal but he now has an invitation to provide samples for a tasting. Kirsty thinks it is a good result and, with the current interest in traceability, a good opportunity; Tom seems less enthusiastic but is grateful for Kirsty’s encouragement.
  • Paul is feeling low and wants to talk but Lilian is not answering. He arranges a meeting with her next Thursday in Felpersham, at an Italian restaurant rather than the flat, and more or less commands her to be there – no excuses.
