  • Oliver drops round Jack’s new slippers to Peggy and comes to realise that Jack’s decline means he’s beyond being able to socialise any more.
  • Jack’s not keen on having new slippers but, by making a game of it as if he was a child, Peggy gets them on. Then he won’t take them off and goes to morning day-care in them.
  • Oliver presents Ed with some new overalls for open day. Ed’s just got a call from researcher Charlotte asking him out; Oliver’s not surprised, he came across very well on the radio. Ed and Emma are moving into Rickyard next week. It’s tiny but fully furnished. And Ed’s seen the outside orchard calving is going well at Brookfield.
  • Jennifer’s avoiding biodigester talk with Peggy and instead tells of Alice’s university clubs. Lilian comes in, Tony can’t make it. With that, Peggy’s told of Maria. She’s very indignant, she and Jack are OK as they are, but just then Maria arrives and she agrees to talk to her.
  • Maria puts a good case and Peggy finally agrees she can meet Jack this afternoon. The visit goes well, with Jack taking Maria round the garden. Meanwhile, the daughters are badgering Peggy who eventually agrees to a trial; but just a trial!
