Phoebe is angry with Kate. Carol is angry with Jill. Clarrie is angry with Joe.
Radio Times: Kate needs some help, and Clarrie susses out Joe.
Characters: Carol, Clarrie, Jill, Joe, Kate, Phoebe, Roy- Phoebe’s phone rings horribly early on the day of her Maths exam. It’s Kate, who totally ignores the fact that Phoebe has an exam, demanding help with crowd control and telling an uninterested Phoebe how wonderful the Solstice celebrations were. Large numbers have arrived and are trying to get into the yurts. Phoebe refuses and selfish Kate is left to sort out the problem of her own making.
- Having left for work, Clarrie calls back home to pick something up, and finds Joe demolishing the ferret cage in the kitchen. She takes him to task – today the agent is coming to value the house – then light dawns; Joe is doing it deliberately to show the house at its worst. If the agent’s report is unfavourable, maybe Caroline and Oliver will decide not to sell after all. Joe denies doing any such thing.
- Roy rings Phoebe to wish her well. At least you remembered, says Phoebe sadly. She tells Roy about Kate’s ‘guests’. Oddly he is not surprised.
- Jill meets Carol, and meets with a very frosty response. Carol accuses Jill of interfering by ringing Anna. Jill apologises but points out that she acted out of good intentions. Eventually Carol calms down and asks Jill round for tea. The relationship is restored as they admire the roses.
- When Clarrie returns from work, she asks Joe how the agent’s visit went. Blithely he tells her that he pointed out the various stains and the crack in the wall. The agent will have to get a surveyor in. Then comes Joe’s coup de grace: he told the agent it was all due to faulty drains. It could be the tip of the iceberg. Clarrie is speechless.
- When Phoebe gets home she meets her ‘exhausted’ mother, who, of course, fails to ask her daughter how the exam went. It seems that a number of the guests are still in residence and there is still a lot of noise. Phoebe announces that she is leaving, and goes upstairs to pack. She goes to Roy, and tearfully tells him what has happened. Come in, he says. Stay here and let me look after you.
