Pip gently shows David the error of his thinking over Heather and Rob plots his blackmail of Charlie.
Radio Times: Pip is there for Ruth, and Helen is understanding.
Characters: Brian, Charlie, David, Helen, Pip, Rob- David and Pip discuss the possibility of Granny Heather moving to Brookfield. Pip questions David as to why he won’t tell Jill. David tries to explain that he is worried about the amount of help Heather needs. He fears that Ruth would become a full time carer; he feels that Ruth would see her mother differently because of the ‘personal’ care needed. Pip sensibly points out that Ruth would cope and it would be better than driving up and down the country. David counters that help is sometimes easier to accept from a stranger. Pip asks if that means that David won’t let Granny Heather move to Brookfield.
- Charlie left a message on Rob’s voicemail in which he asks for a rewind and for a cooler conversation to take place. Helen is positive that Charlie is backing down and wants to apologise. Rob declares that nothing would bring him to return to Berrow Farm. Rob claims that Charlie has been vindictive and Rob has been going through seven shades of hell and humiliation. He just didn’t want to worry Helen since their marriage is so happy.
- Charlie comes looking for Adam but Brian mentions he is gone. Charlie tells Brian that the wonky figures have been investigated and that there may be some fallout. He tries to find out if Brian has heard anything. When it is clear that Brian knows nothing, Charlie takes his leave and mentions he’ll catch up with Adam later.
- Rob tells Helen that it was Raf who muddled the figures but he didn’t want to get Raf in trouble so Rob took the blame. Just to make sure he was laying it on thick enough, Rob bleated to Helen that it was the injury from being the flood hero that caused Rob to delegate to Raf. Helen is sycophantic in her responses. But Rob is most outrageous when he reveals to Helen that Charlie fears Rob will reveal Charlie’s kiss with Adam; this is the real cause of his targeting Rob. When Helen loyally affirms that Rob will be able to find a new job right away with his great gifts, Rob announces that he is not yet ready to take on a new job. He wants the perfect position to fit into his perfect life. Rob intimates that if Charlie won’t provide a reference, Rob will ‘kick up quite a stink’. Apparently, even blackmail is not a step too far for Rob.
- Pip tries to get David to see that Ruth is so worried about Granny Heather that there is no perfect solution. Perhaps it is the least bad scenario that needs choosing. Pip points out that David made the decision alone to stay at Brookfield, maybe now it is Ruth’s turn to make the hard choice by herself.
