Pip hears some unwelcome truths. Darrell is concerned that Neil may have heard some unwelcome truth.

Radio Times: Pip receives a wake-up call, and Darrell tries to explain.

Characters: , , , , ,
  • David takes a call for Pip, who is still in bed. It is the Head of Agriculture at the University, informing Pip that her chickens have come home to roost; all her partying and skiing have resulted in her failing two modules. Pip responds by rushing out of the house.
  • Pip rings Spencer, who tells Pip she can easily turn the situation around by resitting next term. Still shocked, Pip seems not to share Spencer’s conviction.
  • Knowing how angrily David can react, Ruth think she should be left to handle whatever problem has arisen and leaves Pip a message asking her to ring home. Everything will be fine, she says.
  • Ruth’s softly softly approach is eclipsed by David who encounters Pip checking the ewes. When she tells him what has happened, he tells her very forcibly that she has changed, that she is irresponsible and needs to turn her life around. Sharing Ruth’s conviction that his daughter is an extremely high-flier, David tells her that someone of ‘her calibre’ should be achieving at the very highest level. In total denial, Pip claims it is because she has too much to do on the farm.
  • Neil meets an embarrassed Darrell in The Bull. Darrell says Elona can be emotional at times, and that all he is doing is networking with some mates in order to find work. He wonders what Elona has told Neil about his past, but assures Neil that everything is fine.
  • Using her best hushed breathy voice, Ruth again assures a chastened Pip that everything will be fine – she will speak to David on Pip’s behalf. Pip continues to maintain that David is at fault for putting her under undue pressure, but eventually agrees that a fresh start all round is required.
